Interview-Ruth

clichesandcloches:

Whats your name?: Ruth Li

Where are you from: Staten Island

What’s that like?: Well, I recently moved there from Brooklyn. At first, I really didn’t like it—it was a hard adjustment because it was so far from school. Now I like it better though, the people are nicer and the community is closer.

Interviewing ME! (Giulia)

  • Troy: Where are you from? Neighborhood-wise.
  • Giulia: I live in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, but I used to live in Fort Greene. I've always lived in Brooklyn.
  • T: Do you have any pets? Why/why not?
  • G: I don't currently have any pets, but when I was little we had a canary bird named Ruby. He died when I was 8. My mom is allergic to most animals so we just don't have any pets, even though I kind of want a dog or cat or something.
  • T: Get a fish. Or aquatic animal.
  • G: We used to have fish too!! I can't remember what happened to them...
  • T: Did you flush them?
  • G: No, I think they just died too.
  • T: Are you sure?
  • G: Kind of. Next question!
  • T: Where do you go to school?
  • G: I go to School of the Future.
  • T: Is it a long commute, what's it like, etc?
  • G: Yeah, I have to take a bus and 2 trains to get to school. It's usually around 45min but I'm used to it. All the teachers I had this year we really nice and supportive, and I do pretty well in school so I enjoy it.
  • T: Name one pro and one con about your school.
  • G: One pro is that we don't do any testing at all, like no regents, and we don't have any finals. It's a pro because I HATE testing like crazy, which is why I chose to go there. A con is that there's only 100 kids per grade, it's really small, so I'm kind of stuck with the same people for 4 years. I already know everyone in my grade.
  • T: Favorite pastime.
  • G: I take a lot of dance classes during the year, and during the summer I like to go swimming and do yoga.
  • T: I've done bikram yoga before. It was crazy.
  • G: Me too! I love it.
  • T: OK, you're stuck on an island and you have 3 items. What would they be?
  • G: I would bring... 3 bookshelves of books given to me by everyone I know before I left for this island.
  • T: Knowledgeable. Also on an island, unlimited one type of candy, what candy?
  • G: Werther's originals. The hard candy thingys.
  • T: Why?
  • G: I don't really like any other type of candy, so yeah.
  • T: Why don't you like any other type of candy? Did you have a traumatizing experience with candy?
  • G: No, I just don't like sweets that much and those are the only ones I can think of.

Interviewing Troy

  • Giulia: What neighborhood are you from, and how long have you lived there?
  • Troy: Harlem, for like 3 years now.
  • G: Have you ever lived anywhere else? Explain!!
  • T: Yes. I lived in Spain when I was a baby, it's not that big a deal.
  • G: Why were you living in Spain?
  • T: My dad lives there.
  • G: Do you have any pets? Why/why not?
  • T: I have a cat, a dog, and a fish because I love my cat, and I love my dog, and I recently got some fish.
  • G: What are your pets' names?
  • T: My cat's name is KK, we adopted her from an animal shelter. And my dog's name is Sassy, and we took her from my old neighbor because they couldn't afford to have her anymore. She's a pug. And my fish don't have names. I can't think of any names for them.
  • G: What school do you go to?
  • T: ICE.
  • G: How long have you been going there?
  • T: Almost 4 years now.
  • G: Is it near your house, or do you have a long commute?
  • T: No, it's not near my house but the commute is 15-20min.
  • G: Name one pro and one con about ICE.
  • T: A pro is that the teachers are really good and they do their best to make sure that we pass and that we understand what they're teaching. A con... there's a lot of drugged up hobos around my school. It's sad.
  • G: OK. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why would you go there? It has to be somewhere you haven't been before.
  • T: Australia... because I have Australian in me and I have yet to be there and I have family there.
  • G: What part of your family lives there?
  • T: Half of my dad's family, just cousins. There might be one or two aunts but it's mostly cousins.
  • G: That's cool. Ok so you're stuck on a desert island and you can have 3 items with you. Which items would you choose and why?
  • T: A radio, because I love music. A camera, because I like to take pictures. And a magical fridge that never empties.
  • G: You should know that you probably won't get and reception... and your camera would run out of battery. Just saying.
  • T: ...
  • G: Ok last question. You're stuck on a desert island again, but this time you can have an unlimited supply of ONE type of candy. What would you choose and why?
  • T: Uh... snickers. Because it's yummy and filling. And makes me dance. Happily.
